Meet EVOLVh, My Favorite Clean Haircare Brand + Mother's Day Giveaway

While my focus here at The OE is clean skincare and skincare education, I often talk about clean beauty as a whole. I’ve made the conscious decision to strive for using clean ingredients in everything from household cleaning products to haircare. The ingredients we surround ourselves with, use on the garments we wear, and the non-skincare products we use daily, all get absorbed into our bodies. Removing harmful ingredients that can build up in the body over time has been an ongoing project and one that isn’t always the easiest endeavor.

For me, switching from mainstream haircare to clean chemical-free options was really challenging. I mean really. There are now quite a few clean haircare lines available and I’ve tried the majority of them, fluctuating between frizz that left me looking like a fluff-ball and oil-rich products that left my hair greasy and weighed down. The clean haircare struggle is real! When I finally found a product line that had ingredients I felt good about and products that performed as well as traditional haircare, I was over the moon. Partnering with them to help spread the word and ease your own clean haircare journey seemed like a logical next step. So with no further ado, I am pleased to introduce you all to EVOLVh, the clean haircare pioneers and my favorite clean haircare brand.

Founded in 2009, EVOLVh offers the most advanced formulations of any other natural or organic professional line, and advanced PhytoBlend technology containing unique blends of natural active ingredients not found in other hair products, producing visible results you can see and feel. I can attest to this. Similar to skincare, these products contain vital amino and fatty acids, plus powerful botanicals that strengthen and nourish on a molecular level for shinier, healthier hair. As an added bonus, every product in the line is multifunctional and is Salt-free, sodium lauryl sulfate-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, panthenol-free, phthalate-free, ethoxylate free, synthetic fragrance-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and vegan.

I love that this science-based company not only makes great formulations but is also thinking about what customers really need. Trying a new shampoo and conditioner before committing to a full-size bottle is a must and having liter sizes of your daily products is a cost-effective way to shop. EVOLVh has you covered with affordable Discovery Kits, bundles of their best-selling products, and liter size duos of Shampoo and Conditioners.

WHY IS CLEAN IMPORTANT?

Hair health is directly related to scalp health. In the same way we care for the skin on the rest of our body, we need to care for the skin of our scalp. Ingredients penetrate into the skin of our scalp in the same way they penetrate the skin on the rest of our body. Therefore, when looking for hair products we need to make sure they are full of ingredients that support a healthy scalp and are free of ingredients that can cause harm to our body. Here are a few ingredients to avoid:

Silicones - While some water-based silicones can be beneficial for locking in moisture, silicones as a category of ingredients can be detrimental to hair health as they build up in the hair, weighing it down causing dryness and clogging hair follicles.

Sodium Laurel Sulfate - SLS is a form of detergent that creates a sudsy lather but it also is very effective at wicking up oil causing a drying effect. This can create brittle damaged hair especially when previously color-treated. As with anything we use on our hair, it will also affect the scalp, and SLS is known to cause irritation by stripping the scalp of oils it needs to protect itself, which can lead to hair loss.

Phalates - Phalates are used as gelling agents in shampoos. Preliminary studies link phthalates to eczema, which, in turn, can cause scalp inflammation and hair loss.

Synthetic Fragrance - Made from a mixture of petroleum-derived chemicals, synthetic fragrance strips the natural oils of the hair and scalp, in the same way as other harsh chemicals, leading to either greasy or frizzy hair. These chemicals also build up in the body mimicking hormones and disrupting the body’s endocrine system.

ANTI-AGING IS NOT JUST FOR THE FACE

If you’re like me, you’ve probably noticed your hair has changed as you’ve gotten older. Typical changes include hair loss, greying, and texture change. An aging scalp produces less oil which lends itself to drier hair. Hormonal shifts as we age result in a courser, rougher texture. The fairer you are the sooner you tend to grey due to a slowing down of melanin production. I come from a long line of premature silver foxes and started greying the year I turned 21. At 36, I am now over 50% grey. I LOVE grey, white, and silver hair on other women but am not quite ready to start the transition myself. Thus, I color my hair. If only these raven locks were au natural! Constant coloring (I’m an every two weeks kinda girl) paired with textural changes from greying has left my hair dry and frizzy. Maybe you can relate?

Adding in moisture, moisture, and more moisture is the first step in addressing aging hair. Condition every time you wash your hair, follow it up with a leave-in conditioner, and deep condition weekly. Next, add protein and essential fatty acids to both your daily diet and your haircare routine. Evolvh makes that easy since amino and fatty acids are included in all of their formulations.

Smart Color Shampoo & Conditioner

This eco-luxe shampoo gently cleanses and nourishes color-treated hair while targeted amino acids increase hair strength to protect hair from the rigor of the color process. The protective conditioner uses an evolutionary blend of essential fatty and amino acids delivered deep into every strand to increase color retention for extended peak color life, protecting from future breakage and split ends, and restoring every strand to optimal health. Both feel like shampoo and conditioner should and fully rinse from your hair without leaving any residue just hydrated protected locks.

Ultra Repair Reconstructing Masque

This intensive treatment repairs hair that has been compromised by color or bleach processing, heat styling, or environmental factors. Formulated to have 5X the amino acid concentration of any other masque on the market, UltraRepair delivers real visible results. I end up using this a few times a week and love how healthy my hair feels.

Pro Tip: Use the Reconstructing Masque as a leave-in conditioner prior to coloring. Ultra Repair uses a high concentration of Tyrosine, an amino acid that holds onto color pigment, ensuring your color lasts longer.

Wonder Balm

I follow my leave-in conditioner with this highly concentrated moisturizing serum. It nourishes, hydrates, adds shine and minimizes frizz all without weighing down your hair. It works wonders (haha see what I did there) for curls and smooth blowouts alike. Plus it’s silicone-free!
How To Use It For Curls:
Initially apply 1 pump to wet or dry hair, roots to ends. Then adjust the number of pumps according to the length of hair and definition required. Shape using fingers into desired curl or wave pattern.

How To Use It For A Sleek Blowout: Apply to wet or dry hair, roots to ends before blowdrying, and/or flat ironing straight. Lightning fast, it will cut your blowdry time in half!
